September 22nd is to dedicate the happiest of birthdays to Bilbo and Frodo Baggins, two characters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s popular Middle Earth Cycle books, The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings. Standing upright anywhere between a shocking two to four feet tall, hobbits are the unlikely underdog hero that we never see coming.

Filled with an overwhelming sense of valor and honor, hobbits tend to accomplish great achievements, even if that means putting their own selves at risk. Because of these unwittingly heroes, why not give them a whole day to be treated as if it is their birthday – similar to that described in the beginning of The Fellowship of The Ring.

This day occurs in the middle of Tolkien Week (a completely separate event), where we celebrate the life and legacy of J.R.R. Tolkien who had passed in early September of 1973. Hobbit Day always collides within the Tolkien week, where we feel like this really adds to the memory that we are remembering. You can be part of the party on the 22nd by hosting a movie marathon to commemorate your favorite Hobbits that have become national heroes in your eyes. Dub it the “Long Awaited Party” and the real fans will show up.
